"Scorpio" (Zodiac Series) - Painting by Dakota Daetwiler
This is my 4th painting from the zodiac series, and I'm so excited about how she turned out! The original is an oil painting, 24" x 30" canvas. Here are some of the details I tried to embody in this Scorpio painting:
- Water sign, portrayed by the water surrounding the bottom of the canvas and droplets on her shield.
- The story of Scorpio: (Portrayed by the shield/arrows) The Greek myth associated with the sign actually involves Orion, a giant who was killed by a scorpion. According to Greek mythology, Orion was one of the most beautiful of all mortals. He was a skillful hunter. When Scorpio killed Orion, Scorpio protected all of the animals by doing so and was turned into a constellation by Zeus as a reward.
- Citrine and Opal birthstones, on the shield
- Birth Flowers: Marigold and Chrysanthemum
- Seductive, sensual, mysterious, brave and loyal are just a few of the characteristics I tried to portray with her body language, shield placement, and the look on her face. I hope these come across well.
